Halifax, NS to North Sydney, NS. This afternoon we enjoy an adventure as we board the Marine Atlantic Ferry

back, relax and watch for marine life as we sail across the Cabot Strait. Our overnight stop is in the beautiful town of
Port aux Basques, Newfoundland.

Port aux Basques, NF to Plum Point, NF |
2 Nts, B |
Our morning drive brings us to Corner Brook, NF. We visit the Railway Society of Newfoundland
Historical Train Site and Captain Cook's Monument for a picture opportunity. After lunch, we get
off the beaten path and take a trip into Gros Morne National Park, designated a World Heritage Site,
with breathtaking scenery. We stop at the park's Visitor Centre and proceed along the Viking Trail. At
Lobster Cove we visit the Lighthouse and the fascinating marine displays. View Western Brook Pond's
glacier carved gorges on the
way to Port au Choix National
Historic Site. The exhibits here
focus on archaeological finds
that identify Maritime Indian
and Dorset Eskimo settlements
in this area, well before 2000 BC.
After a great day, we look forward
to our motel in Plum Point
with world-class hospitality where we spend the night.

L'Anse Aux Meadows
& Grenfell Home
|
B |
We continue our historical tour on to L'Anse Aux Meadows
National Historic Site, the first authenticated Norse site in
North America. Park interpreters and the Visitor Centre
highlight the first European settlement in the western hemisphere
- preceding Columbus by 500 years. Archaeologists
have uncovered artifacts that indicate a Norse settlement
was in this area about 1000 AD. It is believed that Leif the Lucky settled in this Viking Village in 1000
AD. UNESCO has declared the site a World Heritage Site. We
tour the sod-house displays on the Norse way of life. Next
we visit St. Anthony, home of the Grenfell Mission where we
see the Grenfell House, former home of renowned medical
missionary Dr. Sir Wilfred Grenfell, and browse the unique
craft centre. We retrace our steps back down the Viking Trail
to our motel in Plum Point.
| Day
5 |
Plum Point, NF to L'Anse-au-Clair, Labrador |
B |
Today we board the ferry across the Strait of Belle Isle to Blanc Sablon. Our short drive brings us to
Red Bay. Red Bay highlights the world's largest whaling centre of the 16th century. A self-guided tour
around Saddle Island explores this wealth of archaeological sites. Later on, we return to L'Anse-au-Clair
for a one-night stay.

L'Anse-au-Clair, NF to Grand Falls, Labrador |
B |
We say goodbye to Labrador
and catch our ferry back to
St. Barbe and mainland Newfoundland
this morning. We
journey south along the Gulf
of St. Lawrence with a stop at
Arches Provincial Park to photograph
the two large arches
carved by the pounding sea.
Our leisurely southeast drive
takes us through open country
with patches of pine and spruce
trees. Upon arrival in Grand Falls, we visit the Salmonid Interpretation Centre (subject
to availability). This is considered one of North America's largest Atlantic salmon
enhancement projects. Our home for the night is in Grand Falls, one of the major
suppliers of newsprint in the world's centers.

7 |
Grand Falls, NF to Clarenville, NF |
B |
We leave Grand Falls this morning. During the "Road to the
Isles" drive, the areas amusingly named settlements such as Virgin
Arm, Crow Head and Hatchet Harbour indicate the unique
local nature. At historic Twillingate, we visit the Museum and
the Long Point Lighthouse. From here you can spot drifting icebergs
and huge whales feeding along the coast (seasonal). We
continue our journey down to Gander. We stop at Peacekeepers
Park and Silent Witness Memorial. Then its on to beautiful
Terra Nova National Park for a tour and stop at its Marine
Interpretive Centre. Tonight we enjoy a "screech-in" party, the
traditional Newfoundland welcome at our Clarenville hotel, our
home for the next two nights.

Bonavista & Trinity |
B |
Today we visit two of Newfoundland's most famous
outports. First we drive to Cape Bonavista, the site
of John Cabot's arrival, where it is believed he first
sighted the New World on June 24, 1497. We journey
back down the rugged Bonavista Peninsula
and arrive to Trinity. Trinity was named by Portugese
explorer Gaspar Corte Real on Trinity Sunday in
the year 1500, when he sailed into the harbour. We
explore the narrow, tree-lined streets of Trinity to enjoy the beautifully preserved
historic buildings. We travel back to our hotel in Clarenville for the night.
| Day
9 |
Clarenville, NF to St. John's, NF |
2 Nts, B |
We travel to the Avalon Peninsula. Sit back and relax as we drive through Heart's
Delight and Heart's Desire to the small town of Heart's Content. We visit the old
cable relay station, where the first transatlantic cable was landed in 1866. We make
a short stop in Harbour Grace, an old pirate
town, where Amelia Earhart took off in 1932 for
her pioneering solo flight across the Atlantic
Ocean. We continue our scenic drive through
Conception Bay to St. John's, NF. A city unlike
any other, the "City of Legends" is cradled in a
harbour carved from granite and is surrounded
by hills running down to the ocean. Quaint
side streets of a thousand colours and friendly
faces wait to greet you. We stay in St. John for
the next two nights.

St. John's, NF |
D, B |
We enjoy a locally guided city tour of St. John's this morning. The escorted tour

Harbour and the historic waterfront. Late
afternoon is free to explore the city and its
waterfront on your own. Make use of the
free time for last minute souvenir shopping
for your loved ones. This evening, join
your tour director and fellow passengers
for a traditional Maritimes dinner
courtesy of Pacific Gold Tours.
All good things must come to an end! We take with us our memories of a
wonderful ‘Newfoundland & Labrador’ experience as we travel to the airport for
our return flight home. Complimentary airport transfer taxi voucher is provided
