Our short drive this morning brings us to Grande Pre National Historic Site for a historical visit. The graceful stone church stands as a memorial to the Acadians, as during the Deportation from 1755 and 1763, the Acadians were forcefully exiled from their homes and farms. Afterwards, we visit Port Royal, one of the oldest European settlements in Canada. We continue on and arrive in Digby to catch the ferry to Saint John, NB, crossing the Bay of Fundy with the world’s highest tides. We enjoy lunch during our ferry crossing. The ferry brings us to Saint John, NB, the Loyalist City. Stroll along the revitalized waterfront and Market Square of this old loyalist stronghold.

Our leisurely drive east across the Strait of Canso brings us into Cape Breton, the island of the hearty and independent Scots, the original European settlers of this historic island that also is rich in French heritage. Early afternoon, we visit the Fortress of Louisbourg to relive history as we take a tour of the famous 18th century Fortress! For your knowledge and enjoyment, we have hired a local step-on-guide for detailed history of the monument. It is beautifully restored with inhabitants dressed in period costume, and it stands today as it was 200 years ago! We return to Sydney, NS for the next two nights.

Day 7 Scenic Cabot Trail B
Enjoy the most dramatic and scenic view of the cliffs and moors as we travel to Baddeck, for a visit to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site where Mr. Bell conceived and tested some of his spectacular inventions! Afterwards, we get started for our adventure on Cabot Trail, named after the famous explorer who first sighted the island in 1497. Watch as we pass the meandering glens, rugged coastlines, white gypsum bluffs and the always-pounding surf. We make photo stops enroute to make this a very special day, indeed. Enjoy the most relaxing and scenic adventure of the tour. The evening is free to enjoy the hotel facilities or explore Sydney on your own.
